Wide Dark Oak Spine Staircase
Project: Holymoor Road
We worked alongside Abbotsbury Contractors to create our biggest Spine staircase yet in the heart of Holymoorside, Chesterfield. The super impressive New Build had such a unique interior styling that we had to work alongside, focusing on walnut colouring, anthracite highlights and stainless details to finish.
Initially the client wished for a floating staircase, but after seeing the detail of our spine staircase the client wanted to add this architectural detail to their home. But not only was it a new detail for the client, this is our widest spine to date. This staircase measures a width of 1500mm with a huge 100mm thick oak tread. An unheard of level of comfort. This encouraged us to create the spine 70mm larger than usual on both faces to make the spine look more in keeping with the large width.
Walnut is such a special material, which also comes with a high level of character. Sometimes it is so wild that it looks blonde in places, but our client was not a fan of such wildness. So we decided to manufacture the treads from White Oak, stained to a walnut finish for the correct colour, but controlled character!
We finished the detailing with a continuous stainless steel handrail on the staircase and landing for a neat, hardwearing finishing touch. This detail matched their doors, light switches and front door hinge detail too. Meaning there is continuity throughout the home, making the staircase a focal point.
