Canyon Grey Oak Complete Staircase Renovation

Project: Ash Bank

The Taylor family decided to completely refurbish their 1930’s semi-detached home in Staffordshire Moorlands, prior to moving into the property. One of the key features was to renovate the old noisy staircase with a feature piece to compliment the home. With a generous sizes hallway, it seemed fitting to make it appear even larger for that grand entrance feel. The addition of glass made this very simple. After their initial inquiry, a member of design team visited the family with samples and drawings of the finished staircase to ensure the Taylor family were ready to take the leap to a designer staircase.

The most challenging aspect of this project was achieving the canyon grey oak finish to compliment the new flooring throughout the ground floor of the property. Our custom staining service allows us to change our material finish to compliment your chosen decor. There is no compromise on finishes with First Step Designs. This stain was added to all the timber components throughout the staircase, which in this case European White Oak stained to a canyon grey.

All aspects of the balustrade were replaced with solid Oak components, set to receive the toughened and polished glass balustrades. Glass can come in many forms such as reduced iron, bronzed, grey tinted or etched, but the clear finish was perfect for this environment. The inline glass allows a minimalist finish with no fixings on display, allowing light to travel unobstructed throughout the staircase and landing space.

This was a complete staircase renovation that even includes Anti Slip tread cladding and a replacement first step. The original first step was a dated round bullnose step, so we decided to replace this with a square bullnose to commpliment the modern Scani interior that the clients were trying to achieve.  This old dated staircase now looks like a complete replacement staircase without any of the damage of removing the existing flight!
