Replacement Metal Staircase w/ Frameless Glass
Project: Palmers End Barn
Mr and Mrs White decided to remove their old dated spiral staircase for a more comfortable staircase that brought their living space back to life. Mr White gave our design team a few basic measurements to see if this was possible and we were able to complete a preliminary design the very same day to ensure that a normal staircase would fit in the space that was available. We worked quick to ensure Mr White was not wasting his time and put together a solution right away.
Now that the important layout was designed, our team were able to put together a variety of designs that would suit the space. The layout is the most important starting point for any design as this allows us to narrow down the best design options for the space. The tight winder that we had to use due to the space, made us realise a stringer design would be most suitable and comply with building regulations.
The cutstring, open plan steel staircase is one of our most popular designs. It allows light to travel throughout a property, and make all spaces appear larger. But also since this steel structure gives a whole new level of strength we were able to float the winding turn and also create a floating platform at the top of the staircase to ensure the hallway was not interrupted with the new design layout.
The strings were shot blasted, primed and finished with a matte RAL 7016 (Anthracite Grey). The treads manufactured from European White Oak, stained to a Limed finish to compliment the upstairs flooring. As a finishing touch we used a stainless steel handrail for that additional contemporary feel to the staircase.a A fantastic project with a beautiful outcome.
