Our latest case study takes us to Wolverhampton where Mr and Mrs Bannister were looking to bring their old tired staircase back to life through a staircase renovation. First Step Designs were ready and willing right from the initial inquiry to create a bespoke staircase renovation masterpiece! No structural work required for a 48 hour staircase transformation!
Oak and Glass Staircase Renovation
We first spoke to Mrs Bannister on the phone and she had a joiner as a friend who she originally offered the project… but he had no experience with staircases. This is a specialist project and even the majority of joiners would recommend getting a staircase specialist involved. We are that confident with our renovations that we offer a 10-year warranty as standard!
After the initial phone call with Mrs Bannister, we requested photos of the staircase, which she was able to send the same day, her assigned designer was able to complete the quotation the following morning!
No home visit, no hard sell, just an honest price and flawless design.
Free Staircase Renovation Design
Once our clients have received our competitive quotation, this will not change! We offer the best price first-time and ensure that these quotations are not part of any sale, giving our clients that pressure free time to ensure a new staircase is the right decision! Many of our clients are quoted 6 months before actually choosing to go ahead with the order.
Upon consultation (after the client already knows the price) we bring samples and realistic 3D visuals like the one above to the client. This means under no obligation, the client knows the price of the renovation but also know exactly what the finished product will look like. A flawless system that all clients absolutely love. Once Mr and Mrs Bannister saw the visuals… they signed up right away.
Staircase Renovation Installation Team
This particular project saw First Step Designs convert what is known as a Cut String Staircase, into a Closed string staircase. This means we get erase of the zig zag side profile of the staircase and update it to a more contemporary closed string design with glass balustrades. You would never know the original staircase was not like this. The strings (sides of the staircase) are then clad with a 6mm oak veneer, meaning once the staircase has been re-carpeted it looks like a brand new solid oak staircase!
The key part of any staircase renovation is installing the new solid newel posts throughout the flight. We completely remove the existing posts and replace them with your chosen style of newel post and cap. We do this in such a way that the structure of your staircase is not compromised at all, and at no point are you unable to use your staircase during the renovation process.
Once the newel posts are installed we can move on to installing the clients chosen pattern of handrail. We are a bespoke company and can offer almost any pattern of handrail, but we have a selection of three that always offer the perfect finish for all clients. If you are looking for a comfortable rounded profile, or an ultra modern square profile to match other aspects of your home. First Step Designs has you covered.
Glass Staircase Balustrade
The final part of the renovation is the balustrade. Glass is by far our most popular product and there are a variety of options to choose from. Large panels, small panels, embedded glass, bracketed glass, grey glass, etched glass, low iron glass…. this list goes on. Mr and Mrs Bannister chose to go for embedded clear glass balustrades throughout their staircase. This means no fixings or fittings can be seen at all, giving a simplistic and elegant final finish to the staircase. As soon as the glass balustrade is installed, our clients fall in love, it is the perfect transformation.
This wonderful installation took just over two days, we prefer to let the team finish the project in day light to ensure the finish is perfect. The client left an official review on our ‘Feefo’ account:
